Overview

The goal of the study is to test and analyse the effectiveness of a mobile app and its content. The mobile app is called EmployABLE and it contains exercises designed to teach best-practice CV writing tips through CV critique exercises. The app also provides AI driven feedback on responses to challenging interview questions.

This study focuses primarily on CV-related exercises with a mobile application that presents CV evaluation exercises.

You will:

Review example CVs
Complete structured checklist-based evaluations
Receive a score based on your responses

Each exercise focuses on a specific part of a CV (eg. personal details, format, work experience).

How it works

You will be shown a series of CV examples.

Some CVs contain mistakes, while others are correct.

Your task is to evaluate them using a checklist within the app.

Your score shows how closely your answers match the checklist items.

Learning Approach

This activity is intended as a practice based exercise.

You may repeat exercises if you wish
Scores are provided for feedback purposes
There are no penalties for incorrect answers

End Goal

By the end of the study, you should:

Feel more confident with what is required in a CV
Understand what should be included in each section
Be able to identify strengths and weaknesses in CV examples

Important Notes Before You Start

Participation is voluntary
You will be asked to provide consent during the account creation process in the app
Your responses will be anonymised and used for research purposes only

Account & Password

This app is a prototype
Password recovery is not available
We strongly recommend:

Write down your password before creating your account
Ensure it is entered correctly during sign-up

If the password is lost during the study, it cannot be recovered or reset

Sign Up Issues

If your sign up does not work (example: tapping accept in the consent form does nothing):

Your username may already be in use
Please try a different username

The app does not currently display error messages for this issue

Study Procedure

The app contains two types of exercises:

CV critique exercises (required for the study)
Interview exercises (optional but recommended)

For this study, the primary focus is on the CV exercises, so please ensure you complete the steps below in order.

However, the interview exercises are available for you to use freely. You are welcome to complete them if they are of interest to you, as they are designed to support additional practice and skill development

Step 1 - Download the App

Download the app using the links available at the bottom of the page.

Once downloaded, complete Step 2 - 6.

Step 2 - Create an Account

Open the app
Create an account by selecting "Sign Up"
Review and complete the consent form
Complete the pre-task survey

Step 3 - Practice Phase

Complete the first practice exercise
After completing this, you will have access to the rest of the CV exercises.

Step 4 - Exercise Phase

Complete as many of the exercises as you like

There is no minimum required, but engaging with a few is recommended before moving on.

Step 5 - Final Activity

Important: Complete this step only after spending time in the Exercise Phase.

Locate the final exercise in the app (at the very bottom of the exercise list)
It may be labelled "Test" or "Event"
This will appear as locked and available in 14 days. However, to make this available, simply close the app and log back in. This will make it available immediately.
